Next generation of medical talent joins SCHN for 2024

Over 300 bright junior medical officers (JMOs) have been welcomed to the Sydney Children鈥檚 Hospitals 星空体育鈥檚 (SCHN), dedicated to championing the health and wellbeing of children and young people.
JMOs are medical graduate interns who have completed their medical degrees and undertake a supervised year of practice that combines formal training with on-the-job experience, laying the foundation for their journey towards becoming independent practitioners.
At SCHN, JMOs are generally Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs) who have completed their medical degrees and undertaken two years of hospital-based training.
These junior doctors are among a cohort of over 1,000 medical graduates commencing their roles in public hospitals across NSW this month.
JMOs play an important role in supporting SCHN鈥檚 experienced medical teams, learning from their expertise as well as contributing fresh perspectives and energy to our hospitals.
Dilan Silva, JMO at The Children鈥檚 Hospital at Westmead (CHW), expressed his enthusiasm for beginning his journey in paediatrics at SCHN.
鈥淚 am looking forward to the ability to be a part of the future generation鈥檚 interactions with the healthcare system. The chance to positively influence their perceptions and increase engagement is a big responsibility but a great privilege,鈥 Dilan said.
鈥淗aving been cared for at Westmead Hospital鈥檚 Special Care Nursery as a newborn, I look forward to being able to give back to my community as well as contributing to the largest paediatric centre in NSW.鈥
Arabella Raupach, JMO at Sydney Children鈥檚 Hospital, Randwick (SCH), was drawn to a career in paediatrics and eagerly anticipates working alongside the team at one of Australia鈥檚 leading paediatric hubs.
鈥淚鈥檝e always enjoyed working with kids and I like the fact that working in paediatrics means you can influence their trajectory from an early age, helping them grow, develop and take responsibility for their health from a young age,鈥 Arabella said.
鈥淓veryone I鈥檝e worked with and met so far is wonderful, supportive and has so much experience. I鈥檓 looking forward to learning from them and being a part of the team at SCH.鈥

鈥淲e have the privilege of welcoming an incoming team of passionate, driven and talented JMOs to our hospital,鈥 Dr Dosani said.
鈥淲e look forward to their contributions, and to supporting them through their paediatric specialty training.鈥
"To have the opportunity to support these fresh, budding paediatric trainees as they further their careers and serve children in the area is really exciting,鈥 Dr Sarofim added.
