Are you worried your child is getting worse?

REACH in ED is a process used in the Emergency Department at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, when parents and carers are worried their child is getting sicker, or deteriorating.

REACH in ED

You know your child best. If you’re worried your child is getting worse, we will start our REACH in ED process.

We will listen and respond. We care.

Tell a staff member you are WORRIED

A Nurse will review your child.

Ask for a senior ASSESSMENT

Still worried? The Nurse In-Charge will assess your child.

Ask for a joint REVIEW

Still worried? The Senior Doctor and Nurse In-Charge will review your child together.

Ask for an EXTERNAL response

Still worried? The Hospital Co-ordinator will attend and provide further support.

REACH in ED is an easy-to-use system for patients and their families to escalate their concerns with staff about worrying changes in a patient’s condition.

Once patients are admitted to a ward, they can use REACH by the bedside.
