About our service
Our Neurology service provides comprehensive clinical services for children with serious diseases of the nervous system.
We specialise in Complex epilepsy, Neuroimmunology, Movement disorders, Tourette syndrome, Peripheral neuropathy and Neurogenetics.
The service has two components; the inpatient service and the outpatient service.
The inpatient service delivers neurological care in close partnership with other inpatient subspecialty services, and provides a consultative service for children admitted to the hospital and to the Neonatal Unit at Westmead Hospital.
The outpatient service provides neurology services through a multidisciplinary team. The service provides an outpatient and inpatient diagnostic service for EEG and neurophysiology services.

- Quaternary epilepsy evaluation and inpatient care
- Clinical consultant nursing service - epilepsy and neurology/neurosurgery
- Outpatient clinics
- Subspeciality outpatient clinics (Complex epilepsy, Neuroimmunology, Movement disorders, Tourette syndrome, Peripheral neuropathy and Neurogenetics)
- Clinical neurophysiology including electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography, nerve conduction studies, and visual, auditory, spinal and somatosensory evoked response testing
- Long-term EEG monitoring (video EEG, ambulatory EEG)

Referral process for clinicians
Our department is using to manage referrals.鈥疶he Consultmed platform allows health professionals to send e-referrals to us securely. 鈥�

We do not accept new referrals directly from General Practitioners, however we would be happy to provide advice to General Practitioners should they have a patient who they feel needs to see a paediatric neurologist.
A weekly triage meeting is conducted by a neurologist and the Clinical Nurse Consultant. The new referrals are reviewed and prioritised before a decision or recommendation is made on how to best progress the referral. Patients are assigned to individual neurologists according to their waiting times for new patients.
The waiting time for new patients to be seen by a neurologist is six to seven months.

Request a referral
To make an appointment at our clinic, you will need a referral from your GP, paediatrician or specialist.
They will assess your child, discuss your concerns, and make a referral to the appropriate service.鈥�
The waiting time for new patients to be seen by a neurologist is six to seven months. You could also speak to your GP or paediatrician about a referral to see a Paediatric Neurologist in their private rooms.
Track your referral
Our department uses Consultmed to manage referrals. Your referring clinician sends the e-referral to us using the secure Consultmed platform.鈥�
Once we receive the referral, we will send you an email with your tracking information. We will update you as we process the referral and book your appointment.
