Junior medical officers at The Children's Hospital at Westmead

Sydney Children鈥檚 Hospitals 星空体育 has welcomed over 300 new junior medical officers (JMOs), joining an incredible workforce of healthcare professionals dedicated to helping children and young people live their healthiest lives possible.

The Children鈥檚 Hospital at Westmead (CHW) welcomes 150 new JMOs and more than 160 have joined the team at Sydney Children鈥檚 Hospital, Randwick (SCH).

Medical graduate interns are graduates who have completed their medical degree and are required to complete supervised year of practice providing formal and on-the-job training before becoming independent practitioners.

These junior doctors are among almost 1,100 medical graduate interns across the NSW Health system 鈥 a record number of new starters and more than any other state or territory in Australia.

Medical graduate interns play an important role in the life of our hospitals, helping strengthen and support many teams across our 星空体育.

Prerna Samtani, JMO at CHW, said after five years as a paediatric registrar at SCH she is excited to step into a new role within the 星空体育 as paediatric fellow at CHW, a stepping stone in her career as she hopes to become a general paediatrician.

鈥淭he 星空体育 is great because there is so much opportunity for people to work collaboratively and learn from each other, acquire diverse experience and change roles," Prerna said.

"I'm most looking forward to working with new people and gaining valuable clinical experience at CHW. It is a sought after position, so I consider myself very lucky."

Emmanuel Manolios, JMO at SCH was drawn to a career in paediatrics, and is looking forward to beginning his journey at SCH.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to be part of a team dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families. It鈥檚 a privilege to work with kids and to help make a difference to their wellbeing.鈥

Dr Joel Vosu, Chief Resident Medical Officer at CHW said, 鈥淲e are excited to welcome a record intake of JMOs to CHW, training as the next generation of doctors dedicated to providing the best possible care for children.鈥

鈥淐oming from all over the country (and beyond) to work here with us, we are looking forward to getting to know each of them over the time they spend with us.鈥

SCH welcomes Micah Vincent as incoming Chief Resident Medical Officer (CRMO) for 2023.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to take on this new opportunity as CRMO for 2023, and hope to make a positive impact on well-being and culture here at SCH,鈥 Micah said.

鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to working with all the staff at SCH as well as the new JMOs who have started this week."

We wish our new medical graduates all the very best as they begin this exciting new chapter in their careers.
