Community Child Health runs a multidisciplinary health and wellbeing assessment for asylum seeking and refugee children. 

We provide:

• a comprehensive health assessment on arrival, including with a Social Worker if required
• assessment of nutritional and infectious disease status
• assessment of development and other identified problems
• reviews of children's pathology results
• coordinated ongoing health care to refugee children and their families.

The team assists GPs in case management in the community.

The Priority Populations ADHD clinic is for school aged children with difficulties with learning, inattention & impulsivity who come from Priority Populations (as defined below).

Acceptance of a patient requires an intake discussion and should meet the following criteria:

• reside in the local geographical catchment area (Northern SESLHD)
• aged 5-16 yrs and attending school
• belongs to a priority population i.e.  
  1. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  2. Refugee or Asylum seeker
  3. In out of home care (OOHC) or case managed by the Department of Communities and Justice
  4. Are known to obtain family support from agencies such as Centrelink; NGOs (e.g. Barnardos, Benevolent Society, Anglicare); Disability support services (NDIS)
  5. Parent or child requires an interpreter. 

We provide an assessment, diagnosis and medical management of children with ADHD symptoms that impact on the child’s learning, behaviour and general wellbeing. We assess and support other comorbidities that might overlap with the symptoms of ADHD. 

Psychological, behavioural support and IQ assessment cannot be provided by this clinic currently; external services are required to provide these. We work alongside behavioural interventional services such as the Child and Family East Service (CAFÉ) and provide support for multiagency (including school) case conferences.

Our developmental services are delivered in collaboration with Tumbatin Developmental clinic. Together we provide the full range of integrated outpatient developmental services.  

All developmental referrals should be made directly to Tumbatin, and the appropriate developmental clinic will be allocated. All referrals go through an intake process prior to being accepted.

Children under 5 years of age with suspected delays or disorders in development may be allocated to the Developmental Screening clinic or the Priority Population Developmental Assessment clinic, which provide a developmental diagnosis and assessment. Although these clinics are open to referrals from GPs, childcare, early childhood nurses, allied health therapists and parents, all referrals go through the Tumbatin intake process via the .

The La Perouse paediatric clinic provides comprehensive medical assessment and follow-up care for Aboriginal Children and Young People in South Eastern Sydney. The clinic manages chronic and complex medical conditions, behaviour and learning difficulties, and adolescent health issues. We also review children in Out of Home Care, including for comprehensive 2B assessments.
