Patient meals and food outlets at Westmead

Most of the time, patients receive a menu and can choose their meals.

However, if your child has a short admission, they may not have the chance to do this.

There are dietary assistants and dietitians who are available to answer your questions or help with any special dietary needs.

  • Never give food or drink to your child if there is a 鈥楴il by Mouth鈥� or 鈥楴BM鈥� notice on the bed. This could be dangerous for your child.
  • Please do not give food or drink to any child other than your own.

Meals for parents

The hospital is not able to provide meals to parents, carers or siblings.

You are welcome to bring food onto the ward and keep it in the fridge in the parents鈥� lounge area.

Please remember to mark food clearly with your name and the date, and don't forget to take it with you when you go home.

Bringing food into the hospital聽

Food safety is important for you and your child.

To avoid bacteria and food poisoning, it needs to be kept below 5掳C or above 60掳C. 

If you bring food into the Hospital, please remember:

  • chill hot food overnight
  • bring cold food or chilled food in an esky with ice
  • food can be reheated in the microwave on the ward
  • please make sure it鈥檚 hot before eating

Please tell the nursing staff if you have brought food for your child to the hospital. They will make sure it does not interfere with your child鈥檚 diet or treatment plan.

Snack trolley

A snack trolley for patients is located on each ward.

A variety of snacks can be purchased from a trolley that volunteers bring to each ward every weekday morning (except on public holidays).

Vending machines

Snacks, drinks and other items such as toiletries are available from vending machines located throughout the hospital.

Bear Brasserie

Bear Brasserie cafe provides gourmet style food and beverages in a caf茅 setting without having to leave the hospital.

Bear Brasserie is located on Level 2 at the end of the Galleria.

  • Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 5:30pm
  • Saturdays, 8am - 1pm.

Kidz Corner Caf茅

The Kidz Corner Caf茅 provides a variety of caf茅 style meals, sandwiches, beverages and confectionery.

They are located on Hainsworth Street near the visitors car park and are open on Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 3pm.

Coffee service ends 2:30pm

  • Monday: 6:30am - 6pm
  • Tuesday - Sunday: 6:30am - 10pm
