Types of care

You and your child will be supported by a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals. 

Paediatrician

Your child's paediatrician is responsible for day-to-day medical management. They perform regular physical examinations, request investigations and referrals and decide treatment plans for inpatients and outpatients. 

Psychiatrist

A psychiatrist provides psychiatric assessment and supervises behavioural, psychological and psychopharmacological treatment of all patients in the CHW Eating Disorder Service and their families.  

Clinical nurse consultant

A nurse who coordinates care and consultation. They provide education and support to the clinical nurses who give inpatient care to young people with eating disorders.  

Nursing staff

The nursing staff are available to provide your child with support 24/7. They provide meal support, supervise during rest periods and provide feedback on your child鈥檚 progress.  

Registrar

All inpatients are medically and psychologically reviewed daily by an eating disorder registrar who works under supervision of medical consultants. 

Family team

This team includes senior social workers and clinical psychologists. They assess develop and implement psychological and family interventions. Interventions will range from individual supportive counselling for patients to complex interventions for co-morbid and family issues.  

Social worker

The social worker provides practical support for families about accommodation and financial assistance while their child is an inpatient.

Dietician

The dietitian gives advice to the team on dietary history intake and associated issues. They meet with parents before the introduction of gate passes to provide support and explain strategies for transitioning to discharge from hospital. 

Physiotherapist

The physiotherapist provides a program to support rehabilitation, muscle development and strengthening.

School teachers

The hospital school aims to stimulate and support children through a positive experience promoting psychological well-being.  Education programs are developed in consultation with medical staff, therapists, hospital school-teachers and your child's home school.  

The hospital school staff can assist with re-entry into home schools. On the day of your admission you will be asked to complete a school registration form which allows your child to attend the hospital school. This is a Department of Education requirement and your child will not be able to attend school until this form is completed. 

Chaplain

Pastoral care support is available to you and your child regardless of health, faith and economic or cultural background. If you require a chaplain please inform the nursing staff who can assist with your request.
